10 Things You Need to Know About How To Increase Website Traffic With SEO

Search Engine Optimization is a long distance marathon, not a sprint. No one has superpowers to immediately rank you in Google, Yahoo or Bing for the keywords you like. Just make sure that you do the right things over time to build your website’s authority.

Your goal is to get lots of rankings in major search engines for FREE.

According to Net Market Share, Google accounts for roughly 75% of the internet’s traffic. So, you’re missing out if you’re not ranking on Google.

Remember, SEO is free traffic. You don’t have to pay for visitors to go to your site. When people use search engines, they know what they are looking for. And if they come across your website in search engine results, they are very likely to take action over a product you’re recommending or they may even sign up to your mailing list.

If you are producing quality and engaging content consistently, then you are proving to search engines that your website deserves to be ranked based on your keywords. Focus on creating compelling content that others will want to link to.

Your website should provide value consistently over time. Search engines need to make sure your website is relevant and useful, and that you are providing value to your website visitors.

  1. Thank you so much for this detailed and insightful post. Firstly, I cannot agree less with you that there is no quick fix to maximizing your SEO, you just have to create quality content. Before I could understand how to make quality content, it was so late and I had to go for various courses and tutorials. Also, social media is the new cool and as such, its a perfect place to win popularity for one’s website.

    1. Thanks Darrick. People should think of it like planting seeds. You have to nurture it and it will eventually grow. Same thing applies. Put in some work first like creating content and focus on helping others, eventually it will all bear fruit.

  2. Being an expert in SEO is no easy task. Some people get lucky, although some consciously make use of SEO to rank their contents on Google’s search engine. Everything you mentioned is absolutely right. People just need to understand that it is a long term strategy and the results don’t normally start to show immediately unless that website has gained some authority.

I have seen some that as they were posted, they were immediately ranked. That is because those websites already have an authority which is why some of their contents immediately rank after just being posted.

    1. I 100% agree with you. While SEO is important, it’s not the only thing you should focus on. You have a site because you’re helping provide information or solving problems, so you should focus on helping people. Make content sound natural and don’t include things there just because of SEO. And yes, it does take time so you should not expect results right away unless you’ve already established authority in your niche. Thanks Jay!

  3. Hi Raquel,  conquering SEO sure is a longer term goal.  Your comments on website authority were a reminder to me. I believe I’m getting there with engaging content and high ranks on Page 1. Talk to me about external links.

Traffic is another challenge.  I have focused primarily on Pinterest, however it is slow progress.  Do you use Tailwind Tribes?  If so, please help me out with some real instruction.  Not really sure what to do.

Thank you for the run through on SEO.  It is good to have a checklist to be sure we are doing all we can. Cheers, Jill

    1. Good on you Jill for getting as close as you can to page 1. That’s wonderful!

External links make your site a more valuable resource and it sends trackable traffic. So to me, its important to have external links on your posts.

I haven’t done Tailwind Tribes although it does seem similar to other services in the market to help grow your social media reach. I’ve found Pinterest to be helpful though and Instagram.

  4. Dear Raquel,

As a full-time blogger, I always try to learn different ways to increase my website traffic. While doing research online, I came across your helpful and informative post. Since I am totally depending on organic traffic, I got a lot of valuable information.

I realized some of the mistakes I was making on my own posts. I was missing external links and I am not active in social media (not sharing my content on social media platform). Also, I have yet to build my email list. So I know I have lots to do moving forward.

Is it possible to increase my website domain authority by just writing quality contents on a regular basis? Please advise.

    Much Success,

    Paul

    1. Glad you were able to get helpful tips that you can apply to your site. While creating content consistently is important, it’s not the only thing you need to have domain authority. Here are a few things you can consider:

      – Make sure you optimize your on-page SEO – look at your keywords, title tags, alt tags.

      – You should also create linkable content and remove any bad links.

      – Check that your site loads fast and is mobile friendly.

      – Make sure that you also become an autority in your niche. Maybe you can do guest blogs to start off?

      Hope this helps.
